EWING, N.J. (11/2/2022) – Peyton Mann scored and assisted on a goal as the third seeded Kean University field hockey team came up short in the New Jersey Athletic Conference semifinals against second seeded the College of New Jersey, 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
Claire Engebreth tallied the game-winner for the Lions who improve to 12-5 overall.
Ja'Carra Jackson and
Morgan Stump both notched goals for the Cougars who fall to 14-4 overall.
TCNJ scored three times in the first 25 minutes for a commanding 3-0 advantage. Kean responded just before halftime with two goals in less than 30 seconds. Stump scored on a shot blasted from just inside the circle during a corner situation and Jackson scored on a breakaway feed from Mann. The Lions led 3-2 at the break.
In the second half, Kean found the equalizer in the 59th minute when Mann scored on a breakaway goal to force overtime.
In the extra session, the Lions scored the game-winner on the only shot of the period.
Stump totaled three shots, while Jackson,
Laura Stump,
Kelsey Corbett and
Jorja Hibschman all tallied two shots apiece.
Jenna Flemings made 11 saves in goal.

Leslie LaFronz and the Cougars will have to wait and see if they have a strong enough resume for the field hockey committee to earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.
