Union, N.J. (11/22/22) – The Kean University women's basketball team powered through in overtime to pick up the win in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both by the final of 52-47.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Tied at 40-all, Kean came out firing and quickly poured in two buckets on their first two possessions to take the lead for good.
Midway through the extra stanza, Brittany Graff nailed a trey (of her five points in overtime) that gave KU a six point advantage. Two free throws from Brianna Smith closed the deficit to four with just over a minute remaining for the Pioneers, but that would be as close as they would come.
The entire contest was a low-scoring, see-saw affair as both teams shot below 30%.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Shannon McCoy led the Cougars with a double-double 15 points and 11 rebounds while adding four steals. Graff ended the night with 11 points, five assists and four steals.
Justina Cabezas had a double-double 10 points and 11 rebounds in the loss (3-2, 0-1 NJAC).
UP NEXT:
The Cougars enjoy a short break for the holiday weekend and will return to NJAC action on Wednesday, November 30th when they travel to Ramapo College for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
