GALLOWAY, N.J. (11/3/22) – Aubre Adams tallied a career-high 13 kills and posted a .545 hitting percentage as the third seeded Kean University women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 straight sets sweep of second seeded Stockton University in the New Jersey Athletic Conference semifinals on Thursday evening.
Ashley Smith totaled a double-double with nine kills and 12 digs for the Cougars who improve to 18-12 overall and advance to Saturday's NJAC Championship game. Kate Louer totaled 10 kills and 15 digs for the Ospreys who fall to 20-9 overall.
Today's win is the first against the Ospeys since 2019, the first shutout since Oct 4
th, 2001 and the first victory in Galloway since Nov. 3
rd, 1995.
Adams totaled six kills on 11 swings and just one error as Kean took set one, 25-22. In the opening set, that saw six ties and three lead changes, the Cougars trailed by as much as five at 20-15. The Cougars rallied with a 9-2 run to close out the set.
Taylor Micheaux served for six straight points during the run.
Anne Beckemeyer and Adams combined for seven kills on 14 swings as the Cougars held the Ospreys to a .071 hitting percentage in the 25-20 victory. After trading points to open the set, Kean started to pull away with a 5-1 run that extended their lead to 19-14 after being tied at 13-13. Smith tallied two kills during the mini run, which gave Kean enough breathing room to take the set.
In the final set, Smith and Adams combined for seven kills on 13 swings with no errors for a 25-17 victory. Stockton led 11-9 early, but Kean slammed the door on the match with a 15-5 run that including four kills from Adams and two from Beckemeyer.
Morgan Hall and Micheaux both tallied five kills apiece, while
Aspen O'Brien totaled 35 assists, three digs and two kills. On defense,
Sian Seeger collected 16 digs.
