Union, N.J. (12/10/22) – New Jersey City University pulled away in the fourth quarter to top the Kean University women's basketball team, 66-55, on Saturday afternoon in NJAC action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was a see-saw battle and a game of runs as both teams took their largest leads against each other in the second half (Kean by nine, NJCU by 11 (the final).
The Cougars (5-4, 3-2 NJAC) started off the third quarter on a 5-0 run to push out to that largest lead discussed (36-27) with 7:12 to go in the frame. NJCU (2-6, 2-3 NJAC) responded with their own run, 11 straight, to take the lead back (38-36).
From there it was a nip and tuck affair before the Gothic Knights took the lead for good on a Jada Camacho layup with 7:03 to go. Jimmirah Johnson widen the gap in the final minutes with six straight points of her own as NJCU held on down the stretch for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Shannon McCoy finished with 12 points on the day, moving her into sole possession of second place in the Kean record book with 1,599 career points.
Brittany Graff added 12 points, five rebounds and six assists while Shahd Badeer tallied eight points and 12 rebounds.
For NJCU, Damaris Rodriguez had a game-high 21 points along with nine assists.
