UNION, N.J. (2/10/22) – Quincy Rooi and
Duncan Beilke combined for 16 kills as the Kean University men's volleyball team was swept by New Jersey City University, 3-0 in their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener on Thursday evening.
Jonathan Andrews totaled 11 kills and six digs for the Gothic Knights who improve to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC. Rooi finished with eight kills and eight digs for the Cougars who fall to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC.
Beilke,
Rajheem Meulens and
Ryan DiCandilo combined for seven kills in the 25-17 set one loss. Beilke recorded two kills in the opening five points as Kean held a 5-4 lead early. Jersey City responded with an 11-3 run that broke open the set at 16-9.
Rooi and
Luke Frankenfield combined for nine kills in the 25-21 set two loss. The Cougars opened with three straight points, before NJCU responded with six straight for a 6-3 advantage. The Gothic Knights pushed their lead to six, before Kean used a 6-3 run to cut the lead down to 19-17. The Cougars stayed within striking distance at 23-21, but back-to-back errors ended the set.
Meulens, Beilke and
Maxwell Thompson combined for 11 kills in the 25-23 set three loss. After trading points to start, Kean attempted to pull away with a 4-2 run for a 13-9 advantage. NJCU answered with a 10-4 run to regain the lead at 21-17. The Cougars made one last push with a 6-3 run to pull within one at 24-23, before Jersey City collected the final point of the match.
Beilke finished with eight kills, while Meulens totaled seven points and four digs. Thompson, Frankenfield and DiCandilo each recorded four kills apiece.
Kevin Molina collected seven digs, while
Zach Noll and Frakenfield combined for 34 assists.

th, hosting #11 Juniata College and SUNY Potsdam for a tri-match beginning at 12:00 p.m.
