UNION, N.J. (2/12/22) – Duncan Beilke totaled 37 kills over two matches as the Kean University men's volleyball team split a tri-match with #11 Juniata College and SUNY Potsdam on Saturday.
#11 Juniata 3, Kean 2
Beilke finished with 18 kills as the Cougars (4-4, 0-1 CVC) pushed the nationally ranked Eagles (11-3, 1-1 CVC) to the brink in their CVC opener.
Kean took the opening set after hitting .360 and holding Juniata to a .043 percentage. Beilke put down six kills on eight swings in the 25-22 victory.
Juniata captured the second set, which saw neither side hit fairly well. The Eagles and the Cougars both tallied seven errors apiece.
Beilke and
Rajheem Meulens combined for eight kills as Kean hit .500 in a 25-23 set three victory. In set four, Beilke added another four kills as Juniata managed to eke out a 26-24 victory, despite the Cougars hitting .409.
The deciding set saw the Eagles hit .471, while Kean posted a .125 percentage. After trading points, the Cougars notched two straight points on a
Quincy Rooi kill and a bad set. Juniata closed out the match on a 5-2 run.
Meulens totaled 12 kills, while
Maxwell Thompson added six.
Zach Noll handed out 38 assists and
Kevin Molina collected nine digs.
Kean 3, SUNY Potsdam 2
Thompson, Beilke, Meulens and
Ryan DiCandilo all tallied double-digit kills for the Cougars (5-4) who needed five sets to defeat the Bears (4-11). After trading the first four sets, the match went to a deciding fifth set.
In that set, Beilke recorded four kills on six swings in the 15-10 victory. Kean traded points to start, before closing the match on an 11-5 run.
Beilke finished with a career-high 19 kills and 12 digs, while Meulens totaled 12 kills and five digs. DiCandilo recorded 11 kills and Thompson tallied 10 kills. Noll handed out 56 assists, while Molina collected 10 digs. Noll's 56 assists were the third most for a single game in program history.
Ian Capp and
Alex Barnhard each tallied a single game record 59 assists.
