DUDLEY, Mass. (2/18/22) – Duncan Beilke totaled 18 kills and posted a .556 hitting percentage as the Kean University men's volleyball team swept Nichols College, 3-0 in straight sets on Friday evening.
Rajheem Meulens recorded nine kills and nine digs for the Cougars who improve to 7-4 overall. Tanner Soracco tallied 11 kills for the Bisons who fall to 5-6 overall.
Beilke and Meulens combined for 10 kills in the 25-22 set one victory. Kean posted a .500 hitting percentage as neither side held larger than a four-point advantage. The Cougars held set point before the Bisons cut the lead in half with back-to-back points. Beilke smacked down a kill to take the opening set.
Beilke totaled seven kills on 11 swings as the Cougars took set two by an identical 25-22 score. After being tied 8-8, Kean went on a 7-2 run to take a 15-9 advantage. Nichols answered back with five straight points to shave the Cougars lead down to 17-15. After trading points again, Beilke posted two of the final three points.
Beilke added six more kills on nine swings as the Cougars took set three with a 25-21 score. Kean held an 18-12 advantage, before the Bisons responded with a 7-2 run to bring the lead back down to one at 20-19. Kean finished the match on a 5-2 run, which included two kills from Beilke.
Stephen Reynolds totaled seven kills and four digs, while
Maxwell Thompson recorded four kills and two digs.
Zach Noll handed out 30 assists, while
Kevin Molina collected seven digs.
Head Coach
Charlie Ginex and the Cougars will return to action in Jersey City, N.J. on Sunday, Feb. 20th for a tri-match with Brooklyn College and New Jersey City University beginning at 12:00 p.m.
