Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Hunter

NEW YORK, N.Y. (2/22/22) – For the second time in a month, the Kean University men's volleyball team swept Hunter College, 3-0 in straight sets on Tuesday evening.

Duncan Beilke totaled 10 kills and posted a .400 hitting percentage for the Cougars who improve to 9-5 overall. Ted Kim and Sherrod Cole tallied eight kills apiece for the Hawks who fall 0-5 overall.

Beilke put down five kills on 10 swings as the Cougars hit .444 in the 25-17 set one victory. Kean opened with a 12-5 run before extending their lead to 17-10. Hunter notched four straight points to cut the lead down to 17-14. The Cougars closed with an 8-3 run, including a kill from Beilke, Quincy Rooi and Zach Noll.

Rooi and Rajheem Meulens combined for seven kills in the 25-22 set two victory. A 10-4 mid set run pushed Kean from a 7-6 lead to a 17-10 advantage. Hunter rallied off eight points to cut the lead down to 19-18. Rooi and Meulens each tallied a kill over the final six points as the Cougars hung on for the victory.

Maxwell Thompson and Beilke combined for eight kills in the 25-22 set three victory. Kean trailed 13-9, but a 5-3 run put the Cougars in a better position as they trailed 16-15. Kean finally regained the lead at 21-20 and closed the match on a 5-2 run.

Rooi finished with seven kills and four digs, while Thompson tallied six kills. Muelens totaled seven digs and four kills, while Noll handed out 23 assists.

Kevin Molina collected six digs.

Head Coach Charlie Ginex and the Cougars will return to action on Friday, Feb. 25th, hosting the Pride of Regis College at 7:00 p.m.
