Taliaferro, Lapczynski Send Baseball to Eighth Straight Win

Union, N.J. (2/27/22) – Senior Dylan Taliaferro tossed eight innings of two hit, shutout ball to lead the Kean University baseball team to a 4-0 win over SUNY Brockport on Sunday afternoon,

With the win Taliaferro improves to 3-0 on the young season.  He allowed just two singles and two walks while striking out five.  Freshman Daniel Keenan recorded his third save of the year with two strikeouts in the ninth.

The Cougars (8-0) registered 11 hits on the afternoon with three apiece from Philip Mahlik and Michael Lapczynski.

Kean jumped out with two runs in their half of the third with timely two out hitting.  After a quick two outs to start the frame, Brett Hilsheimer got things started with a single.  Mahlik followed with a double to put both runners in scoring position and Lapczynski brought them both home with a single down the line.

Catcher Josh Jackson led off the fourth with a triple in the gap and came home on a sacrifice from Dylan Beyer.  The Cougars rounded out the scoring in the bottom of the eighth as back-to-back singles from Mahlik and Lapczynski put runners on the corners to start the inning.  Tim Huxen lofted a sacrifice fly for what would be the final of 4-0.

Kean closes out their home stand on Tuesday with FDU-Florham at 3p.m. before heading south for spring break competition later this week.
