Women's Basketball Pushes Past TCNJ

Union, N.J. (2/5/22)Kayla Anderson was one of three players in double figures to help lead the Kean University women's basketball team to a 58-49 win over The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon in NJAC action.

With the win, the Cougars remain in first place in the conference with a 13-2 mark with three games remaining.

It took both teams some time to get their feet wet in the early going, with TCNJ (9-11, 6-9 NJAC) pushing out to an eight point lead to end the first stanza (13-5).  Kean took their first lead of the day with 5:28 to go in the second period with a layup from Brittany Graff to make the score 15-14.  It was a nip-and-tuck affair for the remainder of the quarter and the Lions used a trey from Sydney Blum just before the break to take a four point advantage into halftime (24-19).

TCNJ got some momentum to start the third quarter and pushed out to a double-digit margin (32-21) with a three pointer from Julia Setaro (one of five from behind the arc for her on the day).  Kean chipped away and proceeded to go on a 15-1 run over the next four minutes and took the lead back (34-33).

The Lions would tie things up on two more occasions, but Kean was able to hold off any rallies and did not relinquish the lead the rest of the day to pick up their fifth straight win.

Shannon McCoy and Graff each finished with four steals and 14 and 12 points respectively.  Rookie Macy Seaman added six points and 10 rebounds off the bench in the win.  Anderson ended the night with 15 points, tied for a game-high, along with six rebounds.

The Cougars are on the road next week and will travel to Stockton University on Wednesday.
