Myrtle Beach, S.C. (3/10/22) – York College (Pa.) used an eighth inning surge to push past the Kean University baseball team on their last day of their spring break trip by the final of 12-6.
Tied at six-all, the Spartans used the long ball to break the deadlock and take the lead for good. Brian Jakubek got things started with a solo shot and Andrew Santarpia put the game out of reach with a grand slam.
The Cougars (11-4) paced the early offense, taking a 5-0 lead midway through the fourth inning. Highlighting the action was a two RBI single from Dylan Beyer in the third and an RBI double from Tim Huxen in the fourth.
Joe Capobianco erased the shutout with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth and the Cougars' Phil Marcantonio answered with one of his own the next inning. Later in the game Capobianco tied things up with another solo shot, for his second homer of the day.
York had 16 hits in the contest, 10 of which were extra base hits. Ethan Kennedy got the win in relief allowing three hits in two innings of work.
For Kean, Marcantonio was 3-for-4 while Josh Jackson and Caleb Rodriguez each had two hits as the Cougars collected 13 on the afternoon.
The Cougars will head back home and will have their first true away contest on Tuesday when they travel to Alvernia University.
