UNION, N.J. (3/26/22) – The Kean University softball team split a doubleheader with Muhlenberg College on Saturday afternoon.
Muhlenberg 8, Kean 0 (5 Inn.)
Eliza Filus and
Sarah Zengel both went 1-for-2 at the dish as the Cougars were shutout in game one.
Heather Clevenger and
Annabella Marino combined for five strikeouts in the loss.
Kean 10, Muhlenberg 1 (5 Inn.)
Filus became the first Cougar since Caroline Ratti in 2019 to hit two homeruns in a game as the Cougars bounced back to dispatch the Mules in game two.
Filus finished 4-for-4 with five RBI's and three runs scored, while
Jenn Majorczak finished 3-for-3 with four runs scored and
Gabriella Fredette went 2-for-2 with two RBI's and one run scored.
Karly Messina,
Skylar Hengeveld and
Melody Caces each recorded a hit in the victory.
Kean scored eight runs over the first three innings as Messina maintained a no-hitter. The sophomore held the Mules hitless until a solo homerun in the fifth broke that up.
Filus added two more runs in the fifth as the junior smacked her second homerun of the afternoon.
Messina struck out two batters in the complete game victory.
