UNION, N.J. (3/4/22) – Rajheem Meulens totaled 12 kills and posted a .423 hitting percentage as the Kean University men's volleyball team earned their first Continental Volleyball Conference victory with a 3-0 straight sets sweep of Immaculata University on Friday evening.
Maxwell Thompson tallied nine kills for the Cougars who improve to 11-7 overall and 1-2 in the CVC. Garrett Pepper recorded seven kills for the Mighty Macs who fall to 5-10 overall and 0-3 in the CVC.
Thompson, Meulens and
Quincy Rooi combined for 10 kills in the set one victory. Kean opened on a 17-7 run before Immaculata answered with a 10-5 run to cut the lead down to 22-17. The Cougars scored the final three points of the set, including two kills from
Luke Frankenfield.
Meulens added five more kills on 10 swings in the set two victory. Kean trailed 10-4, before putting together a 6-2 run to cut the deficit to 12-10. The Macs maintained the lead when they called a timeout at 18-15. The Cougars capped the 25-20 victory with a 9-2 run, including
Kevin Molina serving for five straight points.
Meulens added four more kills on 11 swings in the set three victory. After trading points to start the set, the Cougars closed with a 17-8 run to take the match.
Rooi totaled six kills and eight digs, while Frankenfield tallied four kills, 22 assists, three aces and seven digs.
Duncan Beilke,
Ryan DiCandilo and Molina each recorded three kills apiece.
Cris Naranjo collected nine digs and
Zach Noll handed out 13 assists.
