Myrtle Beach, S.C. (3/7/22) – The University of Rochester used early runs to hold up as they defeated the Kean University baseball team, 6-1, on Monday afternoon.
The Cougars (11-2) had opportunities and outhit the Yellowjackets (12-11), but stranded 11 runners on base.
Rochester (4-1) strung together three RBI singles and took advantage of a Cougar miscue to jump out to a 3-0 lead in the first. The 'Jackets added a single run in the fourth on an RBI single after Colby Cruser reached to start the frame on a leadoff double. It was Cruser again in the fifth, this time with a two run blast to left center to extend the Rochester lead to 6-0.
Kean broke up the shutout in the top of the seventh as Michael Lapczynski singled home Kyle Adorno who reached on a one out walk.
The Cougars next chance came in the top of the eighth as they loaded the bases with catchers with no outs, but Spencer Rojahn worked into and out of trouble without allowing a run.
Vince Mele was 3-for-4 while Lapczynski was 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Kean returns to action on Wednesday when they face Catholic University at noon.
