Fredette and Filus Homer as Softball Splits with #16 Rowan

UNION, N.J. (4/23/22) – Gabriella Fredette and Eliza Filus each hit a homerun as the Kean University softball team split a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader against #16 Rowan University on Saturday afternoon.

Jenn Majorczak went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Filus finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs and Fredette went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Paige Metz and Melody Caces each recorded a hit.

Annabella Marino took the loss after striking out one batter in six innings pitched.

After the Profs scored three runs in the first inning, Kean answered with two runs in the third when Filus hit an RBI sacrifice fly and Metz scored on a Rowan fielding error. After the Profs added another run in the top of the fifth, Filus and Fredette hit back-to-back homeruns which gave the Cougars their first lead of the afternoon.

Rowan took the lead for good in the seventh with a three-run homer from Morgan Zane.

Heather Clevenger only allowed two hits and struck out six batters in the complete-game victory. Majorczak, Filus, and Caces each recorded a hit in the victory.

Kean scored two runs in the second with an RBI fielder's choice from Metz and Gianna Pickens scoring on a fielding error.

Pickens added another run in the third with an RBI sacrifice error for a 3-0 lead. Rowan got two runs back in the fifth, but wouldn't get any closer.

Between games, Head Coach Margie Acker and her coaching staff honored Metz, Tara Daukshus, Majorczak, Sarah Zengel, Skylar Hengeveld and Clevenger.

Coach Acker and the Cougars will return to action in Wayne, N.J. on Tuesday, Apr. 26th, against the Pioneers of William Paterson University for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
