UNION, N.J. (4/5/22) – Paige Metz went 3-for-5 with two RBI's, two doubles, two runs scored and a homerun over two games as the Kean University softball team swept their New Jersey Athletic Conference home opening doubleheader with Montclair State University on Tuesday afternoon.
Kean 5, MSU 0
Metz finished 2-for-3 with a homerun, two RBI's and a run scored, while
Gabriella Fredette went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Sarah Zengel finished 1-for-3 with an RBI, while
Gianna Pickens went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Karly Messina struck out three batters in the complete game victory.
The Cougars notched two runs apiece in the third and fourth innings to lead 4-0 entering the fifth. In the third, Metz smacked her first homerun of the season with a two RBI shot to left. In the fourth, Zengel recorded an RBI single and Fredette stole home.
Fredette added another run scored in the sixth when the fifth year senior stole home again.
Kean 2, MSU 1
Zengel and Fredette both finished 2-for-3, while Metz went 1-for-2 with a run scored and
Eliza Filus finished 1-for-3 with two RBI's.
Annabella Marino struck out three batters in the complete game victory.
After MSU notched their first run of the afternoon in the second, Kean answered with a Filus RBI groundout that scored Metz in the third. The junior added another RBI in the fifth with an RBI fielder choice.
