PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (4/6/22) – Nick Thorne and
Connor Batjer each notched five points apiece as the Kean University men's lacrosse team topped St. Joseph's College (L.I.) 15-11 in a high scoring affair on Wednesday evening.
Thorne and
Hunter Jenkinson each tallied a hat-trick for the Cougars who improve to 6-3 overall. Tim McCann finished with four points on three goals and one assist for the Golden Eagles who fall to 3-3 overall.
Kean fell behind 3-0 in the first six minutes, but rallied to even the contest at 3-3 with three straight goals over the final seven minutes of the first quarter. St. Joe's scored with four ticks on the clock for a 4-3 lead after one quarter of play.
Batjer and Thorne combined for six points in a back and forth second quarter. Batjer notched four points on two goals and two assists, while Thorne totaled two points on a goal and an assist as the Cougars lead by a slim 7-6 advantage at halftime.
In the third quarter, Jenkinson scored twice, while Thorne added another to put Kean in front at 10-7. In the fourth, the Cougars pushed their lead to the largest of the game at 14-9 with a 4-2 run that included goals from Thorne,
Tommy Pellegrino,
Kyle Ryder and
Anthony Porter. Jenkinson completed his hat-trick with the final goal of the evening.
At faceoffs,
Nick Moffa and
Christian Baucom went a combined 17-for-29 with six groundballs.
On the turf, Porter tallied six groundballs, while
Steven Thorne and N. Thorne both tallied five groundballs apiece. On defense,
Matt Palmieri and
Joey McNulty tallied three caused turnovers apiece.
In goal,
Thomas Francy made eight saves in 60 minutes of work.
