UNION, N.J. (5/13/22) – Heather Clevenger struck out four batters and only allowed one earned run as the second seed Kean University softball team advanced to the winner's bracket with a 3-1 victory over third seed Alfred University in the NCAA Union Regional on Friday.
Jenn Majorczak went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while
Isabella Polash finished 2-for-3 for the Cougars who improve to 31-8 overall. Alyssa Guitron went 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Saxons who fall to 25-15 overall.
After Alfred took an early lead in the second with an RBI single, Kean responded with two runs in the third on back-to-back bases loaded RBI walks. After two Saxons fielding errors, the Cougars scored twice runs on three straight walks, including an RBI for
Karly Messina and
Andee Perseponko.
Majorczak added an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI to right center that scored
Jordyn Varone.
Paige Metz and
Eliza Filus both notched a run.
Head Coach
Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, May 14
th, against either top seed Eastern Connecticut State University or fourth seed Waynesburg University at 12:00 p.m.
