CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (9/20/22) – Peyton Mann tallied a hat-trick as the #8 Kean University field hockey team rallied to beat DeSales University, 5-2 on Tuesday evening.
Ja'Carra Jackson and
Kelsey Corbett both tallied a goal for the Cougars who improve to 5-1 overall. Grace DeThomas and Angelica Day notched goals for the Bulldogs who fall to 4-2 overall.
DeSales led 1-0 after 15 minutes of play as DeThomas converted on a questionable penalty stroke call in the 7
th minute.
The Cougars responded with three goals in the second quarter, including two from Mann and one from Jackson, as Kean held a 3-1 halftime advantage. Mann scored her first goal in the 17
th minute with a loose ball in the scrum. She added her second goal in the 20
th minute when she played a
Kayla Link pass into the circle and the senior beat the keeper at the near post. Jackson answered Mann's goal a minute later with a loose ball rocket.
In the second half, Mann collected hat-trick with a goal in the 40
th minute to push Kean's lead to 4-1. Corbett recorded her third goal of the season and capped off the Cougars scoring for the evening with a goal in the 48
th minute.
Day converted on a second penalty stroke as DeSales got a goal back late in the contest.
Jackson and Man both tallied three shots apiece.
Jenna Flemings made 10 saves in 60 minutes of work.
Despite the victory, DeSales led on shots (17-12), shots on goal (14-9) and penalty corners (10-7).
