JERSEY CITY, N.J. (9/20/22) – Anne Beckemeyer totaled eight kills as the Kean University women's volleyball team remains unbeaten in the New Jersey Athletic Conference with a 3-0 straight sets sweep of New Jersey City University on Tuesday evening.
Julia Vacca totaled five kills and posted a 1.000 hitting percentage for the Cougars who improve to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC. Rachael Pharo and Paola Toledo each notched eight kills apiece for the Gothic Knights who fall to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC.
Kean dominated set one with a .409 hitting percentage as Vacca posted five kills on five swings. The Cougars closed the set on a 14-4 run, after leading by just three early.
In set two, Kean needed a late run to power the Cougars to the 25-19 victory. Kean used a 6-1 run to push their lead to 23-18.
Bri Otto collected two aces during the run.
In set three,
Kate Rutigliano and
Alison Kowalewski combined for six kills on eight swings with no errors. A mid set run sparked by four NJCU bad sets helped Kean keep enough breathing room to hold on for the sweep.
Rutigliano and Kowalewski both notched four kills apiece, while
Taylor Micheaux and
Aubre Adams both tallied three kills apiece.
Kylie Bura and
Gwen Hangey combined for 25 assists, while
Sedona Gaard posted six digs.
