Women’s Volleyball Remains Unbeaten in NJAC with Sweep of Rutgers-Newark

UNION, N.J. (9/29/22) – Aubre Adams and Bella Stem combined for 14 kills as the Kean University women's volleyball team remained unbeaten in the New Jersey Athletic Conference with a 3-0 straight sets sweep of Rutgers-Newark on Thursday evening.

Morgan Hall tallied eight kills for the Cougars who improve to 8-7 overall and 4-0 in the NJAC. Alexa Rivera posted 11 kills for the Scarlet Raiders who fall to 0-10 overall and 0-3 in the NJAC.

Hall recorded three kills and no errors on six swings in the 25-22 set one victory. Kean trailed 17-16, before closing the set on a 9-5 run. During the run, Hall, Stem and Adams all tallied a kill while Ashley Smith and Madeline Dohogne each recorded an ace

Adams and Taylor Micheaux combined for eight kills as the Cougars posted a .480 hitting percentage in the 25-15 set two victory. The Cougars trailed 6-5, before putting together an 11-2 run to break things open.

Hall, Stem and Alison Kowalewski each tallied three kills apiece as the Cougars rallied to take set three, 25-17. Newark opened on a 13-3 run, before the Cougars responded with the hot hand of Micheaux. Micheaux served for nine straight points which pulled Kean even at 13-13. The Cougars finished the match on a 9-2 run with Madi DeMartini serving for five straight points.

Adams and Stem each tallied seven kills apiece, while Micheaux recorded six. Julia Vacca totaled four kills and three digs, while Kowalewski finished with three.

Aspen O'Brien totaled 15 assists, six digs and three aces, while Gwen Hangey collected 14 assists and five digs. On defense, DeMartini led the way with seven digs.

Head Coach Don Perkins and the Cougars will return to action tomorrow, hosting the Devils of FDU-Florham for a matinée match at 4:30 p.m.
