UNION, N.J. (1/28/23) – Jack Freese finished with 12 kills and no errors as the Kean University men's volleyball team were swept 3-0 in their home opener by #13 NYU on Saturday afternoon.
Ryan Li totaled 22 assists, six kills, and four digs for the Violets who improve to 2-1 overall.
Luke Frankenfield totaled 10 kills, nine assists and eight digs for the Cougars who fall to 0-2 overall.
Set One
- NYU hit .259 compared to a .042 hitting percentage for the Cougars.
- Kean opened on a 10-4 run and extended their lead to 14-12.
- NYU closed the set on a 10-6 run.
- Frankenfield notched three kills on eight swings.
- Lucas Osiecki tallied four kills on six swings for the Violets.
Set Two
- NYU posted a match high .464 hitting percentage.
- Kean posted a match high .242 hitting percentage.
- The Violets opened on a 10-5 run, before extending their lead to 20-14 before a Cougar timeout.
- Freese recorded five kills on seven swings, while Frankenfield added another three.
- Li, Buddy Cohen, Ry Kagan and Jerry Fang all tallied no errors.
Set Three
- NYU posted a .118 hitting percentage
- Kean posted a .100 hitting percentage.
- Neither side held larger than a three-point lead through the set.
- The Violets put together a 5-1 run for match point at 24-19.
- The Cougars earned four straight points on a service error and three attack errors to pull within one at 24-23.
- Gautham Dasari put away the match with an assist from his bother Sachin
- Frankenfield added three more kills to his total, while Chris Mitchell and Stephen Reynolds both tallied three apiece.
