Women's Basketball Edges Ramapo

Union, N.J. (11/29/23) – The Kean University women's basketball team held off a late rally to win their first NJAC game of the season by topping Ramapo College, 68-64 on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Cougars (3-4, 1-1 NJAC) were able to build up their lead in the second quarter as the Roadrunners (3-4, 1-1 NJAC) were held to just five points in the frame.  Kean went into the break with a 36-22 advantage behind a combined 27 points from Brittany Graff and Gissel Gamble.

Ramapo chipped away and took their first lead of the second half in the fourth quarter on a bucket from Karly Wittenbauer (55-53). 

Kean quickly took the lead right back with a trey from Gamble.  Ramapo tied things up one more time at 58-all but the Cougars were able to hold off the rally down the stretch.  Graff was able to seal the win in the final 20 seconds, hitting three free throws.

INSIDE THE BOX:

Gamble finished with a team-high 25 points while playing all 40 minutes.  Maya Edwards recorded 14 points and seven rebounds while Graff added 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

For the Roadrunners, Jada Thompson led all players with 28 points while adding eight assists and seven rebounds.

UP NEXT:

Kean travels to Rutgers-Newark for a 4 p.m. matchup on Saturday.
