Men’s Basketball Rallies to Beat TCNJ

UNION, N.J. (12/6/23) – Brandon Upshaw finished with 22 points, including 15 in the second half as the Kean University men's basketball team (4-3, 3-1 NJAC) rallied from a 14-point deficit to defeat the College of New Jersey Lions, 68-66 (7-2, 3-1 NJAC) on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kean opened on a 9-0 run capped off by a D.J. Alicea triple.
  • The Cougars hot shooting from downtown allowed Kean to push their lead to double digits at 26-15 with eight minutes remaining.
  • TCNJ climbed back into the game with a 15-7 run behind eight points from Jack Vreeswyk.
  • During the Lions run, Kean went 3-for-14 over the final 8:25 and clung to a 31-30 lead at halftime.
  • After trading buckets to open the second half, TCNJ used a 16-7 run to push their lead to the largest of the game at 56-44 with 9:18 remaining.
  • Kean finished the contest on a 26-12 run which was capped off by an Upshaw floater with 19 seconds remaining.  
  • Upshaw totaled 15 points and Trey Harts collected five during the run.
  • TCNJ was held scoreless for the final 3:26 as the Cougars ended on an 8-2 run
INSIDE THE BOX
  • Alicea totaled 17 points, four assists and four steals.
  • JD Daniels and Harts both collected seven points.
  • Mario Gunn tied a career-high with 13 rebounds.
