Jersey City, N.J. (12/9/23) – Senior Brittany Graff finished with a game-high 22 points as the Kean University women's basketball team edged host New Jersey City University, 71-70 on Saturday afternoon in NJAC action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The game was a back-and-forth battle from start to finish with neither team taking more than a nine-point lead. It also included seven ties and eight lead changes. Kean's largest lead of the first half occurred on a 12-4 run, pushing their lead to 31-22.
The Cougars (5-5, 3-2 NJAC) held a 34-29 advantage at the break.
NJCU (5-4, 3-2 NJAC) turned the tables in the third quarter, outscoring Kean 28-18 to retake the lead.
A three pointer from Gissel Gamble gave the Cougars their first lead of the fourth quarter with just under five minutes to go and later Riley Ahrens put Kean ahead for good with two free throws.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Ahrens ended the afternoon with eight points and 10 rebounds while Gamble added 11 points and six assists.
Maya Edwards and Sarah Weber contributed with 10 and 11 points respectively.
