UNION, N.J. (2/17/23) – Stephen Reynolds totaled 11 kills as the Kean University men's volleyball team dropped their Continental Volleyball Conference opener with a 3-1 loss to #15 Marymount University on Friday evening.

Esteban Jauregui tallied 14 kills for the Saints who improve to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the CVC. Chris Mitchell collected 11 kills for the Cougars who fall to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in the CVC.

First Set

• Marymount won, 25-19.
• The Saints posted a .333 hitting percentage.
• Kean was held to a .091 hitting percentage.
• Marymount opened on a 8-2 run, before the Cougars responded with a 10-3 run to cut the deficit to 15-13.
• The Saints closed on a 6-2 run.

Second Set

• Marymount won 25-17.
• The Saints posted a .333 hitting percentage.
• Kean was held to a .042 hitting percentage.
• The Saints used an 8-1 run to pull away and extended their lead to double digits.

Third Set

• Kean won 25-23.
• The Cougars posted a .292 hitting percentage.
• The Saints recorded a .286 hitting percentage.
• Kean maintained a four-point lead through the set and were in the driver's seat at 22-17.
• Marymount made a late surge, but faulted on set point with a service error.

Fourth Set

• Marymount won 25-17.
• The Saints posted a .371 hitting percentage.
• Kean was held to a .034 hitting percentage.
• Marymount pulled away to take the match with a 12-2 mid set run.

Inside the Box

• Jack Freese totaled six kills, four block assists and a .625 hitting percentage.
• Luke Frankenfield tallied a double-double with 17 assists and 10 digs.
• Cris Naranjo collected 11 digs.

Head Coach Bez Arslani and the Cougars will return to action tomorrow, hosting a tri-match with CMSV and Misericordia University beginning at 9:00 a.m.
