Men’s Volleyball Falls to Ramapo in Five Sets

MAHWAH, N.J. (2/23/23) – Chris Mitchell notched a team-high 16 kills as the Kean University men's volleyball team dropped a non-conference contest to Ramapo College, 3-2 on Thursday evening.

Andrew Finnegan tallied 20 kills and 11 digs for the Roadrunners who improve to 6-6 overall. Stephen Reynolds totaled 11 kills for the Cougars who fall to 7-5 overall.
First Set
  • Ramapo won 25-12.
  • The Roadrunners hit .312, compared to a.-192 percentage for the Cougars.
  • Ramapo opened on a 10-3 run and didn't look back as the Roadrunners committed only three errors.
Second Set
  • Kean won 25-13.
  • The Cougars posted a .500 hitting percentage, compared to a .162 percentage for Ramapo.
  • After being tied 5-5 early, Kean closed the set with a 19-8 run that included two kills apiece from Mitchell, and Jack Freese.
Third Set
  • Kean won 25-23.
  • Kean hit .371, compared to a .333 percentage for Ramapo.
  • Both sides traded runs throughout the set, before the Cougars tallied back-to-back kills and forced a Roadrunner timeout at 22-20.
  • Ramapo notched two attack errors in their final three points of the set.
  • Luke Frankenfield setup Reynolds to take the set.
Fourth Set
  • Ramapo won 25-22.
  • The Roadrunners hit .300 compared to a .275 percentage for the Cougars.
  • Ramapo put together a 10-4 run that gave them a lead they never surrendered.
  • Kean did cut the deficit to 24-22 at set point.
Fifth Set
  • Ramapo won 15-9.
  • The Roadrunners hit .250, compared to a -.045 percentage for the Cougars.
  • After again trading points to start, Ramapo closed with a 6-1 run that included three straight Kean attack errors to end the match.

Head Coach Bez Arslani and the Cougars will return to action in Madison, N.J. on Saturday, Feb. 25th, against Drew University and Cairn University for a tri-match beginning at 11:00 a.m.
