Men’s Lacrosse Remains Unbeaten after Dispatching SUNY Poly

UNION, N.J. (3/15/23) – 14 Cougars tallied a point as the Kean University men's lacrosse team remained unbeaten with a 21-4 non-conference victory over SUNY Poly on Wednesday evening.

Connor Batjer totaled eight points on six goals and two assists for the Cougars who improve to 5-0 overall. Lyle Beeman tallied two points on one goal and one assist for the Wildcats who fall to 1-2 overall.

First Half
  • The Cougars held a 13-3 halftime lead.
  • Kean scored seven unanswered to lead 7-0 after 15 minutes of play.
  • Batjer and Nick Thorne each notched four goals apiece, while Dylan Johnson added three as the Cougars pushed their lead to double-digits just before halftime.
  • The Cougars led 26-8 on shots and 24-5 on shots on frame.
  • Tommy Pellegrino and Cormac McCabe also tallied first half goals for Kean.
  • Steven Thorne notched six groundballs and four caused turnovers in the opening stanza.
Second Half Inside the Box
  • Nick Thorne finished with six points on four goals and two assists.

Milestone Watch
  • Today's victory puts Head Coach Shelley Sheiner at 205 career victories. Sheiner needs three wins to become the winningest coach in program history surpassing his mentor Hawley Waterman, who won 207 career games at Kean from 1970 to 1994.
 Coach Sheiner and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 18th, hosting the Yeomen of Oberlin College at 4:00 p.m.
