Union, N.J. (3/20/23) – Alvernia University scored four runs late for what would be the difference in a 7-3 win over Kean University on Monday afternoon in a rescheduled matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Kean (11-7) plated in a single run in the first off a bases loaded walk from Dylan Beyer.
Alvernia (10-6) took the lead in the next inning with two unearned runs. Thomas Faggioni and Cameron Abele each had RBI singles.
The teams traded single runs as the Golden Wolves scored in the fourth with another RBI single from Abele. The Cougars plated one in the bottom of the sixth as Christian Pellone came around to score on an RBI groundout from Tyler Provost after reaching on a leadoff double.
Alvernia put the game out of reach with two runs in both the eighth and ninth innings.
Kean rallied in the bottom of the ninth bringing the tying run to the plate, but Jason Kelly got a strikeout to end the threat.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
For Kean, Brett Hilsheimer was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Faggioni was 4-for-5 in the leadoff spot for Alvernia with two RBI. Jack Cossa (1-2) earned the win in relief after tossing three innings allowing one run and two hits
