UNION, N.J. (3/29/23) – Rajheem Meulens notched a career-high 22 kills as the Kean University men's volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Ramapo College in their New Jersey Athletic Conference finale on Wednesday.
Aidan Flinn posted a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs for the Cougars who improve to 12-11 overall and finish 1-2 in the NJAC. Reece Kirchofer totaled 18 digs and 11 kills for the Roadrunners who fall to 17-8 overall and finish 1-2 in the NJAC.
First Set
- Ramapo won 25-23.
- The Roadrunners posted a .226 hitting percentage while holding Kean to a .081.
- There were seven ties and four lead changes.
- The Cougars rallied from a 15-9 deficit to even the set at 22.
- Ramapo won the set with back-to-back kills.
- Meulens tallied six kills on 10 swings.
Second Set
- Kean won 26-24.
- The Roadrunners hit .306, while the Cougars posted a .238 percentage.
- There were seven ties and three lead changes.
- Kean attempted to pull away with a 12-8 run that extended their lead to 22-17.
- Ramapo answered with a 7-1 run to regain their advantage at match point.
- The Cougars closed on a 3-0 run that included a kill and an ace from Meulens.
- Meulens added another six kills on 12 swings.
Third Set
- Kean won 25-22.
- The Cougars hit .250, compared to a .216 percentage for Ramapo.
- There were 10 ties and seven lead changes.
- The Cougars held a three-point lead before back-to-back errors pulled Ramapo to within one at 23-22.
- Meulens ended things with back-to-back kills.
- Meulens added nine kills on 15 swings.
Fourth Set
- Kean won 27-25.
- Ramapo posted a .116 hitting percentage, while the Cougars were held to .068.
- There were six ties and five lead changes.
- Kean opened on a 10-4 run before the Roadrunners responded with a 6-1 run to cut their deficit to 11-10.
- After trading runs, Ramapo used another 6-1 run to take a 22-20 lead.
- After the Roadrunners reached match point, Kean ended with a 4-1 run that included two kills from Flinn.
- Flinn tallied four kills on 13 swings.
