Softball Sweeps Opening Day of Fastpitch Dreams Classic

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (3/6/23) – Eliza Filus went 5-for-8 with two homeruns, six RBI's, four runs scored and one double over two games as the Kean University softball team swept the opening day of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in South Carolina.

Kean 8 (4-3), Rosemont 2 (2-1)
  • The Ravens got on the scoreboard first in the second with a sacrifice fly.
  • Kean evened the contest in the fourth when Natalie Stannard scored on a passed ball.
  • The Cougars got the bats going in the fifth and sixth innings with seven runs on eight hits, including four RBI's from Filus.
  • Filus' four RBI's included a three RBI inside the park homerun in the fifth and an RBI double in sixth.
  • Rosemont got a run back in the seventh with an RBI double.
  • Filus went 3-for-4 with four RBI's.
  • Jordyn Varone went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored.
  • Melody Caces went 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
  • Sydney Hixenbaugh struck out four batters in a complete game victory.
  • Lauren Bagg finished 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Ravens.
Kean 8 (5-3), Regis (Mass.) 2 (0-3)
  • After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, Kean answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a defensive error and a Hixenbaugh RBI single.
  • The Cougars bats came alive in the following three innings with seven runs on 11 hits.
  • Kean's seven runs included solo homeruns for Hixenbaugh and Filus.
  • Regis got a run back in the sixth.
  • Hixenbaugh went 3-for-4 with four RBI's and one run scored.
  • Filus went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI's.
  • Brianna Sciulli finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
  • In her first career start, Abby Burns struck out 10 batters in a complete game victory.
  • Diana Petrarca and Marissa Allen both went 1-for-2 for the Pride.
Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action tomorrow in the North Myrtle Beach Fastpitch Dreams Classic against Widener at 11:00 am and Kings College (Pa.) at 1:00 p.m.
