UNION, N.J. (4/15/23) – Sydney Hixenbaugh went 6-for-7 with three runs scored and an RBI over two games as the Kean University softball team sweep a New Jersey Athletic Conference Doubleheader against Rutgers-Newark on Saturday.
Kean 16, Rutgers-Newark 0 (5 Inn.)
- Six Cougars notched multiple hits as Kean exploded for 16 runs over three innings.
- Melody Caces, Autaum Hilyer, Emily Zuppa and Andee Perseponko all recorded multiple RBI's.
- After scoring five runs in the first, the Cougars batted around the order with 10 runs on nine hits for a commanding 15-0 lead.
- Hixenbaugh finished 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
- Caces went 3-for-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored.
- Hilyer and Zuppa both notched two RBI's and two runs scored.
- Hixenbaugh struck out five batters in the complete game victory.
Kean 4, Rutgers-Newark 2
- The Cougars jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two RBI's apiece from Zuppa and Brianna Sciulli.
- Newark got some runs back in the fifth with a two RBI triple from DiMartino.
- Hixenbaugh finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Sciulli went 2-for-3 with two RBI's.
- Heather Clevenger and Abby Burns combined for six strikeouts.
