Softball Sweeps Rutgers-Camden on Senior Day; Secures Spot in NJAC Tournament

UNION, N.J. (4/28/23) – Sydney Hixenbaugh went 4-for-5 with a homerun, an RBI and a double as the Kean University softball team swept a doubleheader with Rutgers-Camden on Senior Day.

Kean 9, Rutgers-Camden 0 (5 Inn.)
  • The Cougars did all of their damage in the bottom of the fourth with nine runs on nine hits.
  • Hixenbaugh opened the inning with a moon shot to right center that bounced off the Hynes Field House.
  • Andee Perseponko and Melody Caces notched RBI singles as the Cougars batted around the order.
  • Karly Messina and Emily Zuppa each added RBI in the inning as well.
  • Hixenbaugh finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Caces went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Gianna Pickens, Messina, Autaum Hilyer, Zuppa, and Brianna Sciulli all finished 1-for-2.
  • Heather Clevenger struck out five batters in a complete victory.

  • Hilyer put Kean on the board in the second with an RBI single to right center that scored Messina.
  • The Cougars added two insurance runs in the fourth with an Annabella Marino RBI double and a Camden defensive error that allowed Zuppa to reach base and Marino to score from second.
  • Hixenbaugh, Messina and Marino all went 1-for-2.
  • Marino struck out six batters in a complete game victory.

Before game one, the coaching staff honored Hixenbaugh, Jordyn Varone, Hilyer and Marino for their hardwork and dedication to the program. 

Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action in the NJAC Tournament First Round on Saturday, May 6th.
