Softball Sweeps Centenary

UNION, N.J. (5/3/23) –  Melody Caces went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and four stolen bases as the Kean University softball team swept a doubleheader with Centenary University on Wednesday afternoon.

Kean 8, Centenary 0 (5 Inn.)
  • The Cougars did all their damage in the second and fourth innings with four runs apiece.
  • Kean collected four runs on three hits and three errors in the second.
  • Brianna Sciulli was the only Cougars to notch an RBI in that inning.
  • Annabella Marino, Emily Zuppa and Andee Perseponko all crossed the dish in the second.
  • Kean collected four more runs on two hits in the fourth.
  • Gianna Pickens, Sydney Hixenbaugh, and Marino all notched RBI's in that inning
  • Hixenbaugh went 1-for-3 with two RBI's at the plate, while tossing a complete game with five strikeouts.
  • Pickens, Marino, Sciulli, Zuppa, and Perseponko all tallied one hit apiece.
 
Kean 5, Centenary 2
  • The Cougars struck first in game two with an RBI groundout by Karly Messina.
  • Centenary answered with a two RBI double in the second to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Perseponko evened the game at 2-2 in the fourth with an RBI triple to right center.
  • Marino put the Cougars back in front with an RBI single that scored Caces in the fifth.
  • Two more runs crossed the dish in the sixth after a Cyclones error.
  • Caces finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
  • Marino, Autaum Hilyer, Natalie Stannard, and Perseponko all notched a hit apiece.
  • Abby Burns struck out a batter in the complete game victory. 

Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action in Ewing, N.J. on Saturday, May, 6th against the College of New Jersey Lions in a NJAC Tournament first round matchup at 1:00 p.m.
