Stockton Sweeps Softball

GALLOWAY, N.J. (4/8/23) – Four players tallied two hits apiece as the Kean University softball team was swept by Stockton University for the first time since 2008.

Stockton 4, Kean 1
  • The Ospreys tallied an RBI single and capitalized on a throwing error to score two runs in the first.  
  • Kean notched their only run of the contest when Eliza Filus scored on a Karly Messina groundout.
  • Stockton took the lead for good in the sixth with a two-run homer to left.
  • Gianna Pickens and Andee Perseponko both went 2-for-3.
  • Filus went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Sydney Hixenbaugh went 1-for-3.
  • Heather Clevenger and Hixenbaugh combined for seven strikeouts.
Stockton 9, Kean 1 (5 Inn.)
  • Stockton struck first again with three runs over the first two innings, before the Cougars notched their only run of the contest in the third with a Filus RBI groundout.
  • The Ospreys added six more runs in the fifth to end the game with a mercy-rule.
  • Melody Caces went 2-for-3.
  • Hixenbaugh finished 1-for-1.
  • Annabella Marino struck out two batters in the complete game loss.

  • Filus needs just three hits to reach 100 for her career.
Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 11th, hosting the Roadrunners of Ramapo College for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
