Union, N.J. (5/4/23) – The College of New Jersey used a four run seventh inning to break a three-all tie and advance in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament by the final of 7-4 over Kean University on Thursday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
TCNJ (20-21) plated three runs in the fifth thanks to an RBI single from Chris Reeder and a two run homerun that hit off the foul pole from Ryan Goodall.
Kean (23-16-1) responded in the sixth as starting pitcher Gianni Marano helped himself with a bases clearing double to knot the game at three-all.
The Lions scored the go-ahead runs in the seventh as Andrew Fernandez lined a two RBI double down the line and Jack Haynes later added a two RBI single to left for a 7-3 advantage.
The Cougars tacked on one more run in the seventh as Tyler Stone scored on a balk.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
John DiCostanzo (2-3) earned the win after allowing no earned runs and three hits in six innings of work. He walked three and struck out three.
Joe Ferreri picked up his second save pitching the ninth inning. He allowed one hit and one walk while fanning two.
UP NEXT:
TCNJ advances to face the winner of the Montclair State/William Paterson matchup. That game will be on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Kean faces Stockton in an elimination game on Saturday at noon.
