UNION, N.J. (5/6/23) – Brett Hilsheimer finished 3-for-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored as the Kean University baseball team advanced in the loser's bracket of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament with a 17-0 shutout of Stockton University on Saturday afternoon.
Josh Jackson finished 2-for-3 with a homerun, three runs scored, and two RBI's for the Cougars who improve to 24-16-1 overall. Cooper Fiore and Nick Avagnano both tallied a hit for the Ospreys who finish their season at 22-20 overall.
How It Happened
- Kean struck first in the second with a Caleb Rodriguez single up the middle that scored Kyle Adorno.
- The Cougars extended their lead to 5-0 in the fifth with a solo homerun from Jackson, an RBI double from Phil Marcantonio and an RBI sacrifice fly from Gianni Marano.
- Kean pushed their lead to double digits in the seventh with RBI's from Rodriguez, Nick Houghton, Hilsheimer and Christian Pellone.
- Houghton, Hilsheimer and Pellone added RBI's in the eighth along with an RBI ground rule double for Adorno, which pushed the Cougars lead to 14-0 entering the ninth.
- In the ninth, Nick Coppola and Tyler Provost added to the run total as Coppola earned an RBI bases loaded walk and Provost drove in two runs.
Inside the Box
- Jason Gilman recorded five strikeouts and only allowed two hits in eight innings pitched.
- Marcantonio finished 3-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored.
- Pellone went 2-for-5 with three RBI's and a run scored.
- Provost, Rodriguez and Houghton all tallied two RBI's apiece.
- Provost, Marano, Adorno, Rodriguez and Justin Teixeira all recorded a hit.
