Union, N.J. (1/10/24) – The Kean University women's basketball team kept pace with the top teams in the NJAC by defeating visiting Stockton University, 78-53.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Ospreys (9-6, 6-2 NJAC) took an early four point lead on two occasions in the first quarter. But Kean (9-6, 6-2 NJAC) tied things up at 10-all with a jumper from Sarah Weber and didn't relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
Trina Deveny-Bethea pulled Stockton within one (28-27) with just over a minute to go in the first half, but Kean closed out the period with a trey from Maya Edwards and a bucket from rookie Riley Ahrens.
The Cougars opened up the game in the third quarter, pushing their advantage to double-digits for most of the stanza. Kean kept the same pace in the final 10 minutes to cruise to the win.
INSIDE THE BOX:
Freshman Gigi Gamble led all players with 19 points while playing all 40 minutes. She added eight assists and five steals. She was one of five Cougars in double-figures on the night.
Macy Seaman recorded 16 points, three blocks and eight rebounds while Brittany Graff and Shahd Badeer each had 12. Badeer registered seven rebounds and three blocks as well.
Ahrens rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points and seven rebounds.
For Stockton, Madison Dulude contributed with 15 points and seven rebounds.
