Late Run Lifts Montclair State Past Men’s Hoops

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (1/13/24) – Five players scored in double figures as the Kean University men's basketball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest to Montclair State University, 92-86 on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED!!!
  • Tyler Spencer and D.J. Alicea scored 12 of the Cougars first 14 points as they took their largest lead of the half at 14-9.
  • MSU knocked down four straight triples during a 12-4 run to propel the Red Hawks to a 31-21 advantage with 6:39 remaining.
  • The Cougars ended the half on a 20-10 run behind a combined 20 points from Justin Morton and Alieca.
  • Morton hit three triples, including two in the final minute as Kean held a 41-38 lead at halftime.
  • Kean shot north of 50% across the board.
  • Alicea opened the second stanza scoring the Cougars first six points to propel them to a 48-42 lead.
  • Montclair State responded with a 15-7 run behind six straight field goals which evened the contest at 54-54 with 13:45 remaining.
  • Ethan Stith kept the Cougars in the mix with nine points over a five-minute span as Kean held a 72-69 lead with just under eight minutes to play.
  • After tying the game at 77 all, the Red Hawks closed on a 15-9 run over the final five minutes, including going 6-for-6 from the line.
