Union, N.J. (1/20/24) – The Kean University women's basketball team led wire-to-wire for their sixth straight win by defeating visiting Rutgers-Newark, 84-61.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars (12-6, 9-2 NJAC) took a 16-0 lead through the first five-plus minutes of action. Senior Brittany Graff provided nine points in the run. Kean pushed the lead out even further in the final four minutes of the first quarter, leading by 19, 25-6.
The Scarlet Raiders (2-16, 1-10 NJAC) played to an even second quarter of action, put still trailed at the intermission, 46-26.
Kean kept a similar pace for the final 20 minutes, using all the available players on her bench during the contest.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Gigi Gamble led all players with 22 points while adding six assists and four steals. Graff finished with 20 points on the day while Riley Ahrens and Macy Seaman rounded out the double-digit scorers with 16 and 10 points respectively. Seaman and Sarah Weber both had a team-high eight rebounds each.
For Rutgers-Newark, Samiyah Horton had a team-high 16 points.
