UNION, N.J. (1/27/24) – JD Daniels finished with 20 points as the Kean University men's basketball team earned a 66-63 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over New Jersey City University on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED!

• The Gothic Knights opened on an 11-3 run after Kean started 1-for-13 from the floor.
• The Cougars clawed back after hitting back-to-back triples which pulled Kean to within two at 13-11.
• Both sides traded buckets for the remainder of the half as NJCU pushed their advantage to nine with three minutes to play before halftime.
• Tyler Spencer converted on a three point play and Brandon Upshaw hit a turnaround jumper in the final three minutes as Kean trailed 31-25 entering halftime.
• The Cougars started the second half on a 12-4 run, including four points apiece from Daniels and Upshaw.
• The rest of the game saw neither side hold larger than a four point advantage.
• Kean closed on a 9-2 run that included Mario Gunn scoring the go-ahead layup with 64 seconds remaining.
• The Cougars iced the game from the line with four straight Upshaw free-throws.

INSIDE THE BOX

• Spencer posted 14 points.
• Upshaw totaled 13 points and six rebounds.
• Gunn finished with 18 boards and six points.
