Wayne, N.J. (10/1/24) – William Paterson University improved to 2-0 in conference play with a 3-1 win over the Kean University women's volleyball team on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was an early see-saw battle of runs in the first set as Kean (8-8, 0-1 NJAC) was able to break a 23-all tie with kills from Anne Marie Beckemeyer and Cayley Elena Morrison to take the first set.
The second set was very similar to the first with the Pioneers (9-5, 2-0 NJAC) able to break a 22-all deadlock with the final three points off two kills and a Kean error.
In the third frame, WP was able to use a small surge to turn a four-point deficit into a one-point lead. From there they chipped away in the back-and-forth affair but did just enough to add a small cushion down the stretch to jump ahead in the match, 2-1.
William Paterson jumped out early in the fourth stanza but the Cougars answered back with a seven point run to knot things up at 14-all. Kean took the lead at 23-22, but a Cougar attack error, a Pioneer kill and block sealed the win for the hosts.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
