Glassboro, N.J. (10/22/24) – The Kean University women's volleyball team battled to a 3-2 thrilling win over host Rowan University in NJAC action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a seesaw battle for much of the first set, the Cougars (13-10, 3-2 NJAC) surged back from a 21-18 deficit to win the first set, 25-23. Anne Marie Beckemeyer had two kills and a block in the span.
Kean held the advantage down the stretch in the second set (23-17) and survived a late rally from the Profs (12-11, 2-3 NJAC) to push ahead 2-0.
Tied at 21-all in the third set, Rowan received two kills from Jena Kaul and an ace from Brooke Adams to force a fourth set.
The fourth set needed extra time as neither team was willing to give in. Kaul came through again for Rowan with two kills to force the deciding fifth set.
Kean took an early 6-1 lead in the set but the Profs battled back and tied things up at 14-all. Kean closed things out with an assisted block from Aspen O'Brien and Olivia Capra to seal the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The Cougars recorded 17 aces in the match while tallying 11 blocks.
Beckemeyer and Cayley Elena Morrison each led Kean with 13 kills. Beckemeyer added a team-best five aces and four blocks. Morrison also contributed with four blocks.
Taylor Micheaux finished the night with 12 kills while Capra had a double-double 10 kills and 12 digs along with four blocks.
O'Brien had a double-double of 44 assists and 10 digs while Madeline Dohogne provided a team-best 20 digs in addition to five assists and four aces.
