Nashville, Tenn. (12/30/24) – The Kean University women's basketball team fell short against Bethany College in the D3 Music City Classic by the final of 63-60.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Despite only having the lead for a short amount of time within the contest, the Cougars (4-7) were never out of it, constantly chipping away.
Trailing by 12 with just under five minutes to go in the game, Kean rallied with back-to-back field goals from Maya Edwards, cutting the deficit to seven. A fastbreak layup from Erika Mercedes inched Kean closer, and a tip-in from Maddison Vaughn with just over a minute remaining, made it a one-possession game.
The Cougars had opportunities in the final minute, but were unable to convert to force overtime.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Mercedes and Vaughn each finished with a double-double. Mercedes collected 12 points and 15 rebounds while Vaughn had 12 points and 13 rebounds. Vaughn also added five blocks.
Cara McCoy led the team with 15 points.

Kean returns to New Jersey and will face Eastern University on January 4th at 1 p.m.
