Cougar Rally Falls Short in Loss to St. Joe's Long Island

Patchogue, N.Y. (3/19/24) – The Kean University baseball team's rally fell short, falling to host St. Joseph's-Long Island, 11-9, Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In their first true "road" game of the season, the Cougars (11-6) fell into an early 3-0 hole after the first inning.  The Golden Eagles recorded three hits sandwiched around two walks for the early advantage.

Kean cut the deficit to one in the top of the third with a run scored off an error and another on a wild pitch.

Later under a larger deficit (11-3), Kean started to chip away with two runs in the seventh, led by a solo homer from Phil Marcantonio to start the inning.

Down to their last at-bat, Kean added four more with five hits in the ninth including a pinch-hit RBI double from Dan Reistle, a two RBI pinch-hit single from JT Abrusci and an RBI double from Gianni Marano, but the Cougars fell just short as closer Dan Morabito sealed the win.

UP NEXT:

Kean will face USMMA on Friday evening in a recently added game, first pitch is 6 p.m.
