Baseball Takes Two from William Paterson

Union, N.J. (4/13/24) – The Kean University baseball team made it four in a row with a doubleheader sweep of William Paterson University on Saturday afternoon.

Game One – Kean 9, William Paterson 1

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Cougars (18-11, 5-4 NJAC) plated four runs after the first two innings scoring on a wild pitch, error, RBI groundout and sac fly.

The Pioneers (7-21, 2-8 NJAC) erased the shutout in the top of the fourth using a sac fly.

Kean added to their lead in the bottom of the same inning with RBI singles from Christian Pellone and Justin Teixeira.

The Cougars added three more late in the game, highlighted by a two RBI single from Kyle Adorno.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Adorno was 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored while Teixeira was 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

Nolan Rowan (6-1) earned the win with the complete game effort.  He struck out 11, walked three and allowed just five hits.

Game Two – Kean 7, William Paterson 6

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Cougars fell into an early hole as the Pioneers jumped out to a 6-0 lead after five innings.  William Paterson pushed across five runs in the fourth with back-to-back RBI singles, an RBI groundout and a two RBI single from Jake Lutz.

Ty Kobylakiewicz made it 6-0 with a solo homer to open the fifth frame.

Kean chipped away and scored one in the sixth with an RBI single from Adorno.

The Cougars then rallied for six runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Caleb Rodriguez, his first collegiate homerun, to take the lead.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Adorno was 4-for-6 while Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with four RBI and two walks.

Noah Rivera (2-1) earned the win in relief.  He tossed five and a third innings allowing just one run and four hits while striking out six.

UP NEXT:

Kean faces Montclair State on Sunday at noon in a rescheduled matchup.
