Union, N.J. (4/20/24) – The Kean University softball team improved their win streak to seven games with a sweep of visiting Montclair State University on Saturday afternoon.

Game One – Kean 2, Montclair 1

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Cougars (24-11, 10-4 NJAC) pushed across two in the bottom of the first.  Eliza Filus scored on a throwing miscue and Maya Thompson delivered an RBI single.

The Red Hawks (13-19, 3-11 NJAC) erased the shutout in the top of the third as Katie Brunner lined a solo shot to center.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Nikki Lusnia (10-8) tossed a complete game, allowing just six hits and one walk.  She struck out nine.

Ali Cavallaro (4-11) suffered the loss after allowing just two hits.  She walked three and struck out four.

Game Two – Kean 9, Montclair 1 (5 innings)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Kean started scoring early as Filus drove in Melody Caces with a triple.  Filus would come around to score later after a caught stealing at second.

The Cougars made it 7-0 after the second frame.  Filus came up clutch with a two RBI double and Messina followed with an RBI double of her own.  Thompson then lined a homer to right for two more runs and a seven run advantage.

Rileigh Glynn erased the shutout in the third with an RBI single up the middle.

Messina put the game away with a two RBI single in the bottom of the fourth for what would be the final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Anabella Farinha (8-2) picked up the complete game win allowing just one run and no walks.  She struck out three.

Offensively Filus and Messina each had three RBI and each record two hits.
