UNION, N.J. (4/24/24) – 14 second half goals lifted the Kean University men's lacrosse team to a 20-11 non-conference victory over Maritime College on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED!!!
- The Cougars jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first behind goals from Connor Batjer, Nick Thorne, and Hunter Jenkinson.
- Maritime ended the quarter with back-to-back goals which cut Kean's lead to 4-3.
- Thorne and Cormac McCabe notched second quarter goals, but a late score from the Privateers allowed Kean to hold only a two goal advantage at halftime.
- The Cougars broke the game open in the third with seven goals, including three from Thorne.
- Jacob Dvoor, Jenkinson and Johnson all scored in the quarter as Kean's lead ballooned to 13-8 entering the fourth.
- The final quarter saw another seven goals from the Cougars, including two from Johnson and one apiece from Batjer, Jackson Earley, McCabe, Aarin Arbore and Christian Schlaefer.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Thorne totaled eight, while Batjer posted seven.
- Johnson and Anthony Porter notched four points apiece
- Kenny Yeager totaled five groundballs and two caused turnovers.
- Dvoor, Johnson, Drew Tucker, and Tyler Scott all collected four groundballs apiece.
- Johnson added three caused turnovers, along with two from Yeager, Jenkinson and Tyler Nolan.
- Nick Paterno made 15 saves.
SIDE NOTE
- Porter's 71 points is the most by any midfielder under Head Coach Shelley Sheiner.
- Porter's accolade joins Johnson and Thorne who hit 100 career goals on the road.
- Batjer in addition posted 100 career assists last week as well.
