Mahwah, N.J. (4/27/24) – The Kean University softball team split in Saturday action, winning the first game, 1-0 in 10 innings and falling, 6-1 in the nightcap.
Game One – Kean 1, Ramapo 0 (10 innings)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was a tight pitchers' battle that only saw a combined seven hits in 10 innings.
The Cougars twice had a runner on third with two outs, but were not able to capitalize.
The #21 Roadrunners had a great chance in the eighth inning as the speed-up rule runner advanced to third on a wild pitch at the start of the inning. But Nikki Lusnia was able to work out of the jam with a bunt, strikeout and pop up.
Kean's next best opportunity came in the ninth was runners on second and third and no outs. But Marissa DiPaoulo was able to work out of her trouble with two pop ups and a flyout.
In the pivotal 10th, Lusnia lofted a one out, sac fly, bringing home pinch-runner Jordyn Varone.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Melody Caces and Eliza Filus accounted for all of Kean's four hits (two each).
In the circle, Lusnia picked up the win tossing the complete extra-inning game. She allowed just three singles and two walks. She fanned nine.
Game Two – Ramapo 6, Kean 1
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was another tight contest, with a combined 12 hits.
Ramapo plated three runs early in the nightcap, aided by four walks.
The Roadrunners added two more in the fourth, scoring on an error and an RBI double from Mahogony Wheeler.
Kean erased the shutout in the seventh inning, scoring on a miscue.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
FIlus was 3-for-3 with a double.
