Baseball Splits with NJCU

Union, N.J. (4/5/24) – The Kean University baseball team split a doubleheader with New Jersey City University, winning the opener 10-5 and falling in the nightcap, 7-2.

Game One – Kean 10, NJCU 5

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After falling behind, 2-0 in the first inning, the Cougars (14-9, 2-2 NJAC) took the lead for good with two runs in the third inning.  Gianni Marano and CJ Tomalavage both recorded RBI singles.

Kean then broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning. Highlighting the inning was a bases-clearing triple from Tyler Stone and an RBI double from Tomalavage.

NJCU (6-11, 1-3 NJAC) pushed three across in the fifth with Nick Vaughn connecting on a two RBI double and Arian Lunar with an RBI single.

Kyle Adorno tacked on two with his first collegiate homerun in the bottom of the eighth.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Marano earned the win with a complete game effort.  He struck out six and walked two.

Adorno and Tomalavage each had two hits and two RBI.

Game Two – NJCU 7, Kean 2

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Gothic Knights used a balanced scoring attack, scoring in five separate innings.

They built a 5-0 lead through four innings. 

Kean scratched across two runs in the top of the sixth as Stone was hit-by-a-pitch with the bases loaded and Tomalavage lofted a sac fly.

Garret Allo answered right back in the same inning with a two run homer for what would be the final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Jeremy Ricourt was 3-for-5 in the leadoff position for NJCU. 

Yan Narvaez picked up the win tossing five innings, while Berto Reyes earned a four inning save allowing no runs and no hits while walking one and striking out five.

UP NEXT:

Kean travels to Rutgers-Camden on Saturday for an NJAC doubleheader.
